Dojo

A dojo is the training hall where martial arts are practiced — literally "place of the way" in Japanese.

In karate it's not just a gym: the space itself has etiquette. You bow when entering and leaving, you don't wear shoes on the mat, and you address the sensei and older students with respect. Any karate club, from a rented school gym to a dedicated school, is a dojo.
