Robo-advisor

#fintech

A robo-advisor is an automated investment service that builds and rebalances a portfolio for you based on a short risk questionnaire. The actual allocation is usually boring (low-cost index ETFs, modern portfolio theory), which is the point — the innovation isn't in the strategy but in making it accessible with no minimum and 0.25% fees instead of a 1% human advisor. Betterment and Wealthfront are the canonical examples; Vanguard Digital Advisor blends the model with a human for larger accounts. It's a sub-category of WealthTech and a clear example of software eating a service profession.
