Obi

The obi is the belt worn with a karategi. Its color shows the student's current rank in the kyu/dan system.

Students progress from white through colored belts (yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown — exact order varies by school) up to black. The belt is treated with respect: tied with a specific knot, never washed, and never dropped on the floor.
